Award-winning sustainable design: MONACO and Pretty Plastic

MONACO WINS GERMAN DESIGN AWARD 2025 - FEATURING PRETTY PLASTIC SHINGLES

MONACO, featuring Pretty Plastic shingles, has been awarded the German Design Award 2025 in the category "Excellent Architecture – Conceptual Architecture". The award recognises innovative and forward-thinking design, with MONACO standing out among submissions from 59 countries for its approach to sustainability and modern architecture.

RECOGNISING EXCELLENCE IN ARCHITECTURE

The German Design Award, presented by the German Design Council, highlights outstanding achievements in design across the globe. MONACO was recognised for its creative use of sustainable materials and its unique architectural approach to combining work and leisure spaces.

MONACO: SUSTAINABLE WORKPLACE DESIGN

Designed by MVRDV for Rock Capital Group, MONACO is a six-storey building located in Munich that reimagines the concept of workplace environments. Its façade is composed of recycled bricks and Pretty Plastic shingles, which cover 70% of the exterior.

The Pretty Plastic shingles, made entirely from recycled PVC waste, represent a commitment to circular design while contributing to the building’s dynamic and functional aesthetic. MONACO is the first project in Munich to incorporate this material, setting a standard for environmentally conscious urban development.

PRETTY PLASTIC: CIRCULAR DESIGN IN ACTION

At Pretty Plastic, we produce building materials from recycled PVC waste. The shingles used in the MONACO project demonstrate how circular design principles can be applied to create durable, functional, and sustainable materials that integrate seamlessly into modern architectural projects.

COLLABORATION AND GLOBAL RECOGNITION

MONACO is the result of a partnership between MVRDV, Rock Capital Group, and Pretty Plastic. The project combines innovative materials and architectural expertise to redefine the possibilities of sustainable design.

The recognition from the German Design Council highlights the potential of circular materials to make a positive impact on the built environment.

LOOKING AHEAD

The German Design Award 2025 acknowledges MONACO’s role as an example of sustainability in architecture. This project showcases how recycled materials can be used in practical, scalable, and aesthetically pleasing ways.
